SKILLS
Good communication skills, both on a one-to-one basis, and in doing group work. Able to plan and keep to a timetable. Capable of producing a steady workflow independently and in team settings.
Professionally trained in using computer animation software, such as Softimage XSI and Macromedia Flash, as well as self-trained other artistic software, including Photoshop, After Effects and ZBrush. Always willing to learn new software too, if necessary.
Also skilled in using non-computer reliant artistry, such as clay sculpture and traditional illustration.
FREELANCE EXPERIENCE
While studying for my degree I took on a lot of small digital commissions and freelance work. I was hired to do work in various fields of digital media, such as animation, web design and illustration. Once I graduated I was able to take on higher profile freelance jobs, a selection of which is listed below. In taking on this work, I've developed not only my artistic skill, but my ability to positively and productively communicate with clients.
An Opera Miscellany
I was commissioned to illustrate for a book, entitled "An Opera Miscellany", which was published later that year. This involved drawing numerous illustrations and improving on them based on notes from the client.
Birmingham Accountant Convention
In the summer of 2008, I was hired to create a computer-animated comp-air for an accountants convention in Birmingham. As part of the commission, I had to model and rig the character to the client's needs, and animate several different expressions they could use to seamlessly interchange different actions with the voice actor they'd hired.
Robert Gillies
I was asked to design a promotional poster for musician Robert Gillies and his band, in the style of classic poster artist Drew Struzan. This commission was one where I worked extremely closely with the client, making sure the layout and colouration were specific to what he wanted.
GloboMaestro.com
I was approached to animate a short promotional teaser for GloboMaestro.com (a professional website where hotel concierges present video travel guides), which they could use to promote themselves as an online ad campaign. The work done on the teaser was so well received that the animation done for the company logo is now used at the beginning and end of all their videos.
Frontier Costuming
In early 2011, I started my own website, FrontierCostuming.com, through which I've received a lot of work designing printed bodysuits for costuming enthusiasts. Since it's creation, I've had the opportunity to design a number of custom suit prints for various clients, ranging from unique designs, to replicating popular characters from movies and comic books.
Heroes Alliance UK
I've devoted time doing graphic work for Heroes Alliance UK, a costuming group (of which I am an active member) that raises money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK. This ongoing work involves designing for all sorts of media, including printed banners, stickers, business cards and flyers, and has given a great deal of creative freedom to design something truly unique to the group.
